Study in Groups - Benefit
Please watch the following video entitled "Battle at Kruger". Imagine that you are a pack of wild buffaloes, chilling out by the water(trying to score a good grade in Molecular and Cellular Biology). But you are being hunted by pride of hungry lions (your lecturer-me) who would like nothing better to make a quick snack of the weakest one of you. After crouching in the brush, they suddenly pounce (pop quiz) and grab a hold of the smallest one of you (the student with the highest course load and the weakest).
Two things can happen at this point: Either the rest of the pack of wildebeest will cut their losses and try to save themselves or they can go back and heroically battle the lions to save their fallen colleague. I am not going to ruin the video if you have not already viewed it, but I think you already know what happens.
Tips:
Studying in packs presents a number of benefits other than just altruistically helping a lesser student:
1. Studies have shown over and over that studying in groups directly leads to higher grades of all involved.
2. Studying in groups is generally more enjoyable for people, which leads to more time spent on the subject.
3. If you are weaker in one area of the course, you have the opportunity to have a peer explain it to you. Many students are more likely to understand a peer’s explanation over a stuffy professor’s (like me).
4. If you are stronger in one area of the course, you will strengthen your overall understanding of molecular biology by teaching it to someone else.
Of course, when you are choosing study partners on the Serengeti, you need to be very careful to stay away from the jackals. These are the students that are more parasite than human and will just leach off of your talents. They are more succubus than man and will not help you much. Finding ideal study partners that are interested in a good grade and are willing to put in the time necessary to achieve a good grade in the course is an informal way of doing things but there is a little problem. You have to help those who do not excel like you but how??
I will start by forming groups at random for you and you can do a peer group evaluation after each group discussion. Identify the strong ones from the weak ones. Then try to improve the group's performance with consecutive discussions.. All the best!!! Give your comments

Cell membrane structure and components (anim)
This elaborate animation details out the structure of the cell membrane and its components as well as its diversity. It even shows the different type of membrane proteins and their specific function in transporting molecules. I hope it will help increase your understanding of cytoplasmic membrane.
Membrane Transport (anim) -click here
This is another must see. Perhaps you will understand more about transport across membrane when you see this.

The New FBB Building - Our Pride and Joy!
The FBB building will be in construction middle of December, 2008. It will take on a totally different brand and concept. The FBB building will optimize on the usage of space and incorporates elements like interactive space, open lab concept, shared facilities and lab space etc. One of the most attractive areas is the atrium where this is a meeting point for students and an area which allows students to interact and hold discussions in between classes. We also include corridor spaces and balconies for interaction and a wi-fied cafeteria which spills into a courtyard for students' convenience. Security and safety are crucial where the number of entrances and exits are minimized and controlled especially after hours. Thanks Kumpulan Arkitek!

Ayat-Ayat Cinta
Lyrics
♥Desir pasir di padang tandus
♥Segersang pemikiran hati
♥Terkisah ku di antara
♥Cinta yang rumit
♥Bila keyakinan ku datang
♥Kasih bukan sekadar cinta
♥Pengorbanan cinta yang agung
♥Ku pertaruhkan
♥Maafkan bila ku tak sempurna
♥Cinta ini tak mungkin ku cegah
♥Ayat-ayat cinta bercerita
♥Cinta ku padamu
♥Bila bahagia mulai menyentuh
♥Seakan ku bisa hidup lebih lama
♥Namun harus ku tinggalkan cinta
♥Ketika ku bersujud
♥Desir pasir di padang tandus
♥Segersang pemikiran hati
♥Terkisah ku di antara
♥Cinta yang rumit
♥Bila keyakinan ku datang
♥Kasih bukan sekadar cinta
♥Pengorbanan cinta yang agung
♥Ku pertaruhkan
♥Maafkan bila ku tak sempurna
♥Cinta ini tak mungkin ku cegah
♥Ayat-ayat cinta bercerita
♥Cinta ku padamu
♥Bila bahagia mulai menyentuh
♥Seakan ku bisa hidup lebih lama
♥Namun harus ku tinggalkan cinta
♥Ketika ku bersujud

Doa Memohon Taubat
Maksudnya:
Aku minta ampun daripada Allah yang tidak ada Tuhan yang berhak disembah selain daripadaNya, yang hidup dan yang menguruskan makhlukNya dan aku bertaubat kepadaNya.
Rusdi and Sharon's Wedding
I had the opportunity to attend the wedding of Rusdi Ramli the actor, son of Norlia Ghani to Sharon Ann Paul, a music composer on the 16th of November, 2008 at Shah Alam. The gathering of about 260 friends and relatives was done in a simple but elegant setting. Though it rained really hard hours before the ceremony, it stopped raining by 8.00pm, alhamdulillah. Rusdi and Sharon was united in an akad nikah ceremony followed by a reception. Datin Seri Siti Norhaliza and Datok K were also present. Sharifah Shahirah (Sheera) and Zaibo were hosts for the night. Among the artistes present were Datin Maria Arshad, Datuk Aziz Satar and wife, Ning Baizura and husband, Hamid Gurkha, Datin Nina Juren and husband, Adibah Nor, Nash, Kavita Kaur, Maya Karin, Bob of AF fame and the list goes on. Bob, Nash, Adibah Nor, Ning Baizura and Datin Seri Siti Norhaliza entertained the guests present at the reception.

Pernim Charity Show by FBB - click here to view ppt
The Faculty of Biosciences and Bioengineering, Universiti Teknologi Malaysia, is organizing its first ever fund raising for PERNIM, an NGO, which is in need of monetary support. Its founder Hjh. Norlina Alawi is on a road show and will be visiting UTM from the 9th to 10th December, 2008 with her 50 kids and 30 caretakers. PERNIM has been caring for children between the age of 3-17 who are deprived, abandoned, orphaned and/or AIDS/HIV victims. In support of Norlina's effort, the faculty is holding a charity dinner show with the help of students and staff of the faculty and chancellory office as part of UTM's Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR). The program will receive a coverage by RTM and Haliza Misbun will be the Master of Ceremony for the event. The faculty has been receiving donations from corporate bodies, companies and individuals. As dean of the faculty, I would like to thank all those involved in organizing the event and those who has kindly donated towards a worthy cause.
